Produce: Carrots, Onions, Parsnips, Potatoes Situated in North Norfolk, close to the Sandringham Estate, Bagthorpe is a 700 hectare mixed organic farm run by the Walton family, which produces a range of organic vegetables and cereals, as well as raising organic Aberdeen Angus cattle for beef. The farm became organic thirty years ago and boasts light, free draining soils which are ideal for growing onions and root crops. A purpose-built irrigation system protects the crops from drought and nine full time staff are employed to pick, grade and pack the produce, which is supplied to local and national box schemes, independent retailers, supermarkets and wholesalers such as Organic North. The team are passionate about the crops they grow; varieties are chosen for flavour as much as yield, and the soil is constantly improved by long rotation, the addition of nitrogen fixing clover leys and the Aberdeen Angus cattle, which are grass fed all year round. Lucky visitors can experience this organic paradise in the heart of rural Norfolk by glamping in a purpose built wooden cabin or in the two biodomes available throughout the summer.
